Like all good food, this website has character and soul

First of all I would like to welcome you to my website, however you might of found it on the big ol’ internet.

You might be thinking that this is just another recipes website in a sea of cooking websites out there, and you would be right in thinking that. Although there is a difference, a big difference I think, and it is that this website has soul and character.

This space is not owned by any organisation or company, its been created from scratch by myself, with help and support from friends and family. I was living away from home for the first time, armed with the knowledge of a handful of recipes (mostly breakfast ones at that!), and looking at all the food waste going straight from the fridge into the bin gave me the idea of a website that would tell me what I could cook with the ingredients I had. (note: A few websites say they offer this but never properly).

It was an idea that I later re-visited in my final year at University, studying computing, when told to create a large project on any subject I wanted. Since then I have used this website to improve both my cooking and computing skills, both coming on leaps and bounds!

I’m sure this website will continue to grow from strength to strength for a few simple reasons. One is that the website will have something for everyone, if your new in the kitchen or a seasoned pro. The second is that I can change the website on a whim, doing the work myself means that I can create the website as I would like to use it, hopefully this means you will find it useful too!

If not already, I ask you to sign-up to show your support for this project. I will never charge money for the website and I am not looking to get rich off this either, its a project with the bigger picture in mind.

The latest development in this project is the involvement with the Guardian. For anyone who doesn’t know, they are the UK’s largest newspaper, and also have without doubt the best recipes and most talented food writers.

Involvement with the Guardian means a lot to me, not only because of all the help and support they have given me, but on a personal note. My father sadly passed away a few years ago, and one of my fond memories of him is how he would always come home late after a long day of work and read the Guardian newspaper from front to back.

I dedicate this website and all my future work to him, my family and friends.

Hope to see you around the site,

Daniel

note: specifically at the Guardian I would like to thank Matt McAlister, Susan Smillie, Matt Wall, Johnny Reeves, Michael Brunton-Spall and everyone else who has kindly helped me.

second note: also thanks to people at WordPress, Zend, Vanilla & co who have produced the open source software that this website relies on.
